Insert N blank rows at once
How to insert multiple rows in excel:
- Select the same number of existing rows as you want to insert (e.g. select 5 row headers to insert 5 rows).
- Right-click the selection → Insert (or Home → Insert → Insert Sheet Rows).
- New blank rows appear above the selection.
Keyboard: select row headers → Ctrl+Shift++ (plus on the number row).
Inside an Excel Table
- Click the last cell in the table → Tab to add one row, or right-click a row → Insert → Table Rows Above.
- Tables auto-expand formulas and formatting—prefer Insert → Table when building lists (create a spreadsheet).
Insert rows between data (shift down)
Select cells in a column range → Insert → Shift cells down if you only need space in part of the sheet. For whole-sheet alignment, insert entire rows.
After inserting: clean empties
Exports often leave unwanted blank rows. Remove them online with Remove blank rows before dedup or SQL export.
