What is a copybook generator?
A copybook generator is an online tool that turns any Chinese text into printable handwriting paper. Parents usually search for it because they need a sheet tonight—new vocab, a name, or a poem—not a store-bought booklet.
ComTools generates Tianzige, Mizige, square grids and article lined paper in the browser. You can upload a photo for OCR, pick tracing or blank practice, optionally leave a blank line under each model line, then export PDF/PNG and print at home. No signup, and your text never leaves the device.
How to generate a copybook online
- Type the characters, poem or essay—or upload an image for OCR.
- Choose Xingkai, Xingshu, Kaishu, or upload a font.
- Pick Tianzige, Mizige, square, or article lined mode; then tracing / guide+blank / empty cells.
- In article mode, set letter spacing and optionally enable blank every other line; adjust opacity and cell size in More settings.
- Preview, export A4 PDF or PNG, print at Actual size / 100%.
Which copybook formats are supported?
- Layouts: Tianzige, Mizige, square, article lined paper (indent + letter spacing).
- Modes: per-cell tracing, full-row tracing, model + blank, empty grids; skip-line practice in article mode.

Article lined mode for essays
Article mode prints like composition paper: only horizontal rules, two-character first-line indent, adjustable letter spacing. Enable blank every other line to copy under each model line. Ideal for essays, diaries and textbook passages—use grids for single-character stroke practice instead.
Tianzige vs Mizige
Tianzige divides each cell into four blocks with a plus sign. It is easier for young kids to see left/right and top/bottom. Mizige adds two diagonals, so stroke start and end points are clearer—better for hard-pen and older students.
Start kids on Tianzige tracing; switch to Mizige when strokes need tighter placement. Square grids work for independent writing after the structure is familiar.
How to make a tracing copybook
Choose tracing or row-tracing, keep opacity around 35%, and use red or gray ink. Tracing is for first contact with a character. After a few days, switch to model + blank so the child writes without a ghost character underneath.
How to make kids' practice sheets
Use 18–20mm cells, about 8 characters per row, Kaishu or Xingkai. Type this week's school vocab, the child's name, or a short poem. A useful week: tracing Mon–Wed, model + blank Thu–Fri, empty-grid dictation on the weekend. Reprint the same set next week.
How to print a copybook
Export PDF (all pages in one file) or PNG (one image per page). In the print dialog choose A4 and Actual size / 100%—do not use Fit to page, or the 18mm cells will shrink. Ordinary copy paper is enough; slightly thicker paper feels better for fountain pens.
